Effective Team Leadership Participants gain an understanding of themselves through their own Team Management Profile. From this foundation we move forward to understanding others and leading them.
Background In 1977 I studied a subject called “Supervision” in conjunction with a TAFE College. Our first assignment was to remember that “Supervision was the art of getting things done through the efforts of others”. A very simple definition but for many managers it is very elusive. Over the years I have seen the managers who are unable to keep their fingers out, doing it themselves or dictating exactly how it should be done. Creativity is killed and staff demotivated. Likewise, at the other end of the spectrum I have seen the remote manager who provides no clear description of what is required and who is that far removed, hasn’t got a clue what’s going on until it’s too late. Effective Team Leadership has been designed to maximise outcomes by effective management of people and processes.
Workshop Overview While there is a module covering team building and team management in the Project Management Workshop this workshop provides an in-depth coverage of the topic. This workshop has a strong emphasis on doing and incorporates group activities to transfer learning and build teams. This makes the workshop ideal as an in-house workshop for the whole team.
Trainer: Karl Buderus
Some of the topics covered are:- • Team Vision and Goals. Why are we together, where are we going, what are we trying to achieve and how are we going to do it? • The Team Centred Leader • Delegation • Team Processes • Team Communication. Developing a common understanding. • Team Motivation • Coaching • Team Types of Work – The Balanced Team • Team Roles and the Team Management Profile • Team Motivation • Dealing with Difficult People • Leadership - What makes Great Leaders, Great.
Each participant at this workshop will receive a Team Management Profile that will help them understand themselves and what type of contribution they will make to a team. The Team Management Profile developed by Professors Charles Margerison and Dick McCann is highly regarded internationally. I was introduced to the Team Management Profile in 1989 when I was studying for my Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree. It has been the greatest help in my understanding my team role preferences and behaviour. With self understanding comes an awareness of others.
