Our project management workshop, Successful Project Management is our flagship workshop. While it supports the guidelines of PMBOK it goes a step further and calls on the shared learning of a number of project managers to assist the workshop participants in wrestling with everyday problems and issues. Groupwork and case studies enable participants to contribute and learn by doing.

Twelve Commonwealth Government staff had a great time participating in a workshop that had no Powerpoint slides. Rather it was five days of activity based learning. Daniel Freedman the trainer has a significant number of simulations that the participants work through followed by a time of reflection and discussion. Daniel’s studies in Anthropology and Computing together with the experiences of his own personal journey have contributed to a very interesting and informative workshop.

Background
In 1977 I studied a subject called “Supervision” in conjunction with a TAFE College. Our first assignment was to remember that “Supervision was the art of getting things done through the efforts of others”. A very simple definition but for many managers it is very elusive. Over the years I have seen the managers who are unable to keep their fingers out, doing it themselves or dictating exactly how it should be done. Creativity is killed and staff demotivated. Likewise, at the other end of the spectrum I have seen the remote manager who provides no clear description of what is required and who is that far removed, hasn’t got a clue what’s going on until it’s too late. The Team Management Profile. Karl Buderus is now an accredited facilitator for Team Management Profiles. Karl was first introduced to the Team Management Profile in 1989 while completing his Master of Business Administration degree. Hesitation at first but then enlightenment. This is how Karl describes it, “I completed a 15 minute questionnaire and subsequently received a Team Management Profile. It was most enlightening. It described the way I like to work, so well, why I do the things I do and most of all it helped me understand myself. After understanding myself to some measure, I could then start to understand others.”

Our trainer, Daniel Freedman worked with 11 participants during the August, End User Acceptance Testing Workshop. In the workshop evaluations the participants indicated that they appreciated Daniel's in-depth knowledge of the topic, his relaxed style and his anecdotes that made the topic live.
